Doctor of Philosophy Program (PhD) in Applied Behavioral Science Research

ABOUT THE MAJOR
The interdisciplinary doctoral degree program in applied behavioral science research focuses on research methodology and behavioral science content. The research methodology includes research methods, measurement, statistics, and computer. The students are encouraged to develop an understanding of both qualitative and quantitative methods of research. The content of behavioral science covers the core contents of psychology and sociology, and additional topics from anthropology, political science, education, and related areas are included so that the student can understand the influence of psychological, social, cultural, and environmental aspects on individual behavior.
The program is based on the philosophy to nurture the graduates in applied behavioral science research to become leading researchers, and empowered human beings with a strong sense of ethics, so that they can work with academic excellence to developing sustainable quality of life for individuals and societies.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
BSRI offers a wide variety of doctoral programs to suit the educational backgrounds and the needs of the students.
I. Curriculum Structure
There are two types of programs offered for the doctoral degree program: one offering admission to the master degree program and then going to the doctoral program; the other offering admission straight to the doctoral degree program.
1. Combined Master and Doctoral degrees
Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Behavioral Science Research
2. Doctoral degree
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD in Applied behavioral Science Research)
2.1 PhD by Course Work and a doctoral dissertation
2.2 PhD by Research

Credit Requirements for the PhD programs

Type PhD program Credit requirements
1 Combined Master and Doctoral degrees Students holding Bachelor degrees must successfully complete no fewer than 90 credits of course work and a doctoral dissertation within 8 years.
2.1 PhD by Course Work Students holding Master degrees must successfully complete no fewer than 60 credits of course work and a doctoral dissertation within 6 years.
2.2 PhD by Research Students holding Master degrees must successfully complete a doctoral dissertation (48 credits) within 6 years.

*Activities for the PhD by Research program

  1. Semester 1- Prepare by acquiring competency in Research Methodology, and theories necessary for each research. Pre-proposal seminar for research.
  2. Semester 2- Prepare for the research proposal, proposal seminar.
  3. Semester 3 onwards- Conduct research as planned.
  4. During 1-3 years must publish two research articles prior to the completion of doctoral thesis.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For admission to the various programs the applicants must have the qualifying degree from a reputed university and are required to follow the necessary admission procedure and interviews as stated at the time of admissions.
The students must demonstrate competency in English language skills- need to have a score of 550 (paper-based) or 250 (computer-based) on TOEFL or 6.0 on IELTS or pass grade in the University’s English examination.

Hold a Masters degree and have research experience in a behavioral / social sciences discipline, having had a responsible role in conducting at least two research projects.
